“I don’t play golf, but have handled more golf clubs than most golfers,” grins West Palm Beach artist Jeff Diamond. A dedicated recycler, Diamond repurposed clubs into art in 2006, when he debuted a bowl welded from repurposed golf club heads at the Orlando PGA Merchandise Show.
Received enthusiastically, Diamond’s eye-catching structures have continued to amaze. They’ve appear at PGA events--and art galleries--since since their debut. “People want items that are artful, but they need to be functional, too,” says Diamond.
Diamond came up with the idea of utilizing cast off golf clubs while visiting Mexico City where he spotted a welded sphere made of stars. It sparked the creation of a sphere out of old golf clubs he had left over from his lamp manufacturing business.
