Jim Shores, born in 1952, is a self-taught artist who lives in Rome, Georgia. He does sculpture, assemblage and environmental art from found/discarded objects. Jim learned at an early age to make do with what was on hand. His parents operated a garage that serviced garbage trucks. He would occasionally ride to the dump in these trucks and would be amazed at the volume of things being thrown away and bulldozed over. Once in a while he would find things the driver would let him take back to the garage. He had an out of the way area, where he would take apart his newly found treasure. The more things he disassembled the more he would add to his ever-growing pile of interesting parts.
