Angels with Attitudes In keeping with the style of American folk art traditions, Stacy Simbrom uses an odd mix of found, recycled, and new items (although only natural materials will do), most commonly working in wood, metal and stone. She can often be found wandering up and down the beaches of the North Shore, sometime in search of inspiration, but more often just looking for the right piece of glass, shell or driftwood. Stacy creates figures primarily feminine in nature, but often with a strong infusion of masculine energy. She creates pieces that reflect more than just the women’s experience, but the experiences shared by all. And that brings us to Greeter Tea Lady I asked Stacy to create a piece that could be used as the greeter in our coffee shop. There were no preconceived ideas of what she should look like. Stacy took the challenge and let her imagination run with it. Ms. Eva's shoes are kettles, and her "girls" are the lids (who but Stacy would have conjured up that application). The face is carved from a block of wood. Her eyes are bottle caps. Her fingers are screws. Her mane of hair is copper tubing. The head, and arms detach for shipping. Oh - notice her skirt - made of spoons. She is 44" tall, not including the hair, 48" if you count the hair. The wood base is 14" wide and 9.5" deep. The spoon skirt measures 12" across. Arms are 10" long. This is a true one-of-a-kind. She doesn't ship. Although FedEx actively promotes a pack and ship campaign to get you to bring your stuff in, and they will pack it, ship it, and guarantee it - it needs to be qualified to say in addition, "we'll do all that only if we have a box in the back that size.
